Better. By a long shot. This ammunition is used by many for training, but some shooters use it for competitions as well. Not intended to be bottom-of-the-barrel ammunition, it provides consistent high performance at a reasonable price point and hits well above its classification as “range ammo”.

Providing better accuracy and better shootability than even our legacy match ammo, there is something special in this loading. Utilizing our Staccato-patented 136 grain match bullet, you get the advantages of a heavier bullet impulse without feeling like you will outrun your gun. The recoil impulse is more “push” than “snap” while still creating the proper reciprocation speed in the slide. This ammo consistently produces 2-inch and smaller groups at 25 yards with the Staccato 2011 lineup. We routinely log 1.25-inch and smaller 20 shot groups using the aforementioned SAAMI testing setup.

THE STACCATO DIFFERENCE

What makes our ammo unique? The following photos are the results of several strings of test fire. These were not shot through a Staccato, nor by a human. They are shot through a barrel vice, also known as a universal receiver, in accordance with SAAMI testing specifications (4 inch barrel with a 1:10 twist). This receiver weighs about one ton, thus eliminating human error and correction in shooting. The testing is done indoors in a controlled environment. It is the best way to isolate the performance of the ammunition without any other influence. The target is at 25 yards.

While conducting load development, we fire 10-shot groups. In daily production testing, we fire 20-shot groups. Those same 20 shots are used to calculate the pressures produced as well as velocities of the ammo. All of this is done by using our ballistics testing lab, and all in accordance with both SAAMI specifications and ISO

• Verify overall length, using calibrated calipers
• Verify the proper crimp, using calibrated calipers
• Verify proper case diameter, using calibrated calipers
• Verify overall length, using calibrated calipers
• Check push (setback) strength values, using calibrated force gauge

Lot sampling procedures consisting of:

• 20 shot group out of a SAAMI 4” accuracy barrel
• 20 shot pressure reading out of a SAAMI 4” pressure barrel
• 20 shot velocity reading out of a SAAMI 4” pressure barrel using Oehler infrared screens
• Function and Casualty for the remainder of sample, using 15 different pistols and 2 pistol caliber carbines

Speaking of pistol caliber carbines, the following photo shows three 5-shot groups fired at 100 yards through a PCC by professional rifle instructor Todd Hodnett, demonstrating that even at 100 yards, our 9mm match ammo is capable of practical sub-MOA accuracy. See the video of those shots here:
